Numerous Taubman College faculty are planning to speak at this year at the 65th Annual Society of Architectural (SAH) Historians Conference, being held in Detroit, Michigan. Scheduled speakers include Professor Robert Fishman, Associate Professor Andrew Herscher, Assistant Professor Amy C. Kulper, and Associate Professor Lydia M. Soo. The purpose of the annual conference is to present recent scholarship in the field of architectural history. Each of the 36 total speakers, including leading historians, preservationists, architects, and curators, will engage with a wide spectrum of topics and perspectives reflecting on the state of the field of architecture. Professor of Practice in Architecture Eric Hill will also deliver this year's Wayne State University Yamasaki Legacy Lecture, "The Michigan Modern Project: Work in Progress," held on April 20 at 7:00 PM, scheduled to coincide with the SAH conference.

Detroit was chosen as this year's destination for the conference because of its magnificent buildings – from early 19th century remnants to stunning Mid-Century Moderns – but also because of the auto industry, which has produced wealth unparalleled by any other city of its time. Not only will the conference bring in speakers and graduate students from across the United States, but participants will also have the chance to attend tours sampling the best of Detroit's architectural heritage: from historic neighborhoods, to outstanding examples of Art Deco.

In addition the conference features a Preservation Seminar, workshops for historians, roundtable discussions, reunions, and evening lectures and receptions. The 2012 conference will take place from Wednesday, April 18 through Sunday, April 22. For more information or to register for the event, please visit: sah.org/2012.
